First-year Kyle Jackson garnered credit for two shutouts and earned a pair of Ivy League Rookie of the Week Awards, Oct. 8 and 15. The Paradise Valley, Ariz. native has won the award three times this season.

The Columbia men's soccer team went 1-1-2 in Ivy League play during the month of October. The Lions defeated Penn on the road and then played Princeton to a 0-0 tie at the Columbia Soccer Stadium.

Senior LB Mike Waller was named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week after a clutch performance vs Yale. He stripped Yale's T. Varga to give the Lions the ball at their own 41-yard line with 2:05. Columbia went on to win 26-22.

Beverly Leon and Coleen Rizzo continued to pace the Columbia women's soccer team on the offensive end of the field. Rizzo found the back of the net on three occasions in the month of October, while Leon scored twice. The duo has accounted for 12 of Columbia's 16 goals this season. The highlight win of the month came over NJIT, a contest in which both players scored to lead Columbia to a 2-0 victory.

From Oct. The doubles tandem Max Schnur and Ashok Narayana completed an exceptional run winning five consecutive matches en route to the ITA Northeast Regional Doubles Title. The victory earned the pair a spot in the prestigious USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships.
