Eighty Columbia Football players returned to Robert K. Kraft Field at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium for the first of 12 spring practices on Tuesday afternoon. The Lions went through a two-hour non-pads practice in cloudy 37-degree weather conditions.
On the road at Hofstra, tirst-year Alexandria Absey led the Columbia lacrosse team with a standout performance posting a team-high four points on three goals and an assist. Despite an impressive hat trick on just three shots, the Pride handed the Lions a 17-8 defeat at James M. Shuart Stadium led by five goals from Alyssa Parella.
Columbia softball senior Madison Gott was selected the Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week, as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Tuesday.
Garrett Ryan, Markus Scheidel, and Tyrel White were named to the All-Ivy League wrestling teams, announced today by the league office.
The Lions were edged only by Brown and were one of 74 schools recognized. To earn the accolade, a team must finish the 2017 fall semester with a cumulative GPA above 3.0.

For the first time in program history, Columbia diving will send two qualifying divers to the NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships on Wednesday, March 21 – Saturday, March 24 at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatics Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota. Regining 1M & 3M dive Ivy League Champion Jonathan Suckow will compete in his first NCAA Championships, while Jayden Pantel makes a program record fourth-consecutive appearance.
