BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Columbia Men's Cross Country came in second place while the women notched third place at the Sam Bell Invite on Saturday at the IU Championship Cross Country course.
The men's squad totaled 70 points for the second place finish behind 38 points from host school Indiana who placed first.
Sophomore Kenny Vasbinder was the first to finish for Columbia in 8th place at 24:51.9 on the 8k course. Junior Lucky Schreiner was four seconds behind him in 10th place at 24:55.12. Junior Brian Zabilski was not far behind in the 13th spot at 25:00.18, and Senior Dylan Tarpey crossed the line at 25:09.70 in 17th place. Junior Dan Schumacher finished the race at 25:34.78 in 30th place to round out the top-5 for Columbia.
The women's team came in third place with 52 points in Bloomington, behind first place No. 4 Michigan and just five points shy of second place No. 14 Indiana University.
The Lions were led by Senior Nell Crosby who was the first to cross the line for Columbia in fourth place at 20:52.03 in the 6k course. Junior Erin Gregoire took 10th place at 21:14.17 and Senior Erin Melly was right behind her in 11th at 21:15.06. Senior Sarah Hardie was just 3 seconds behind Melly at 21:18.74 in 13th place, and Sophomore Fiona Danieu crossed the line just after Hardie at 21:19.31 in 14th place to make it five top-15 finishers for Columbia.
The Lions will have a weekend off before they are back on the course on Friday October 13th in Madison, Wisconsin for the Wisconsin Invitational.
