NEW YORK – Columbia field hockey head coach Caroline Nelson-Nichols has announced the Lions’ 2017 fall schedule. The 17-game slate will begin on the campus of the University of Virginia when Columbia takes on the Cavaliers on Friday, September 1 at 5 p.m.
Four of the Lions opponents are coming off NCAA Championship appearances, including National Champion Delaware, who comes to New York Sunday, October 15 for a 1 p.m. showdown. “This year’s schedule provides us with a chance to face some of the premier teams in the country,” said Nelson-Nichols. “We are continually trying to push this program to new heights and are excited for the opportunities that 2017 has in store.”
The Lions will also take on William & Mary on Sunday, September 3 at 11 a.m. in Charlottesville to wrap up their opening weekend of competition. After road contests at Bucknell (Sep. 8), Fairfield (Sep. 10) and Hofstra (Sep. 15), Columbia will face Bryant Sunday, September 17 at 1 p.m. in its first of nine home contests.
Ivy League play commences the following weekend with a matchup against Brown on Saturday, September 23, followed by a tilt against Saint Joseph’s on September 24 to wrap-up a three-game home stand. Along with Princeton, the Lions will face Cornell (Sep. 30) and Dartmouth (Oct. 21) on the road and will host Penn (Oct. 13), Yale (Oct. 28) and the Crimson.
The rest of Columbia’s non-conference foes include Holy Cross (Oct. 8) and Lehigh (Oct. 22), both at the friendly confines of the Baker Athletics Complex.
