NEW YORK – Columbia Athletics announced that senior Camille Zimmerman (women’s basketball) and sophomore Mike Smith (men’s basketball) were named December Student-Athletes of the Month.

Zimmerman averaged 19.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists in six games. She scored 20 or more points three times to go with a pair of double-doubles against Buffalo (28 points, 12 rebounds) and Hofstra (24 points, 13 rebounds). Zimmerman was named Ivy League Player of the Week after the Lions topped the Pride on December 11. A native of Tempe, Arizona, Zimmerman took over Columbia No. 1 spot in career field goals made and broke into the top five all-time in rebounds.

Smith posted 22.3 points, 6.2 assists, 2.0 steals in six starts for the Lions. He reached the 20-point plateau in four contests, including a career-high 28 against Navy. Smith also established a new personal-best, dishing for eight assists against Stony Brook and tied that mark against Maine on December 30. The sophomore is now leading the Ivy League in assists per game (4.8) and assist/turnover ratio (2.3).
