NEW YORK - NCAA soccer and the roaring fans of Columbia women's soccer has selected Emma Anderson as the week five DI NCAA Women's Soccer Player on Wednesday, Sept. 27. Four players are chosen each week by NCAA Soccer for a Twitter voting poll to select the winner. With over 50% of the 876 votes, Anderson earned her first National Player of The Week honor.
Also named the Ivy League Player of the Week, the junior forward put together a phenomenal weekend with 10 points on four goals and two assists to lead the Lions in a pair of wins over Cornell (Sept. 22) and Wagner (Sept. 24). Anderson fired in the opening goal on the road at Cornell to spark a 2-0 victory in the Lions Ivy League opener. She followed with a three goal and two assists performance in the Lions 11-0 win over Wagner on Sunday. Columbia's 11 goals mark a new program single-game record, surpassing the 30-year old previous mark of 10 set in 1987.
Anderson has pushed her scoring total to a team-high seven goals, tied with teammate Natalie Neshat, to lead the Ivy League in goals this season through 10 games.
Columbia (5-4-1, 1-0 Ivy ) returns to action Saturday, Sept. 30 at 4 p.m. as they look to remain unbeaten at Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium in an Ivy League match against Brown (8-2, 1-0 Ivy).
