Mike Magpayo was promoted to assistant coach on head coach Kyle Smith's staff in 2011 after serving as the program's director of basketball operations during the 2010-11 season.

Magpayo coordinates advanced scouting efforts, oversees the staff's student managers and serves as the program's liaison between the University's academic departments.

For 10 years, Magpayo had coached high school basketball in the southern California area, most recently at Aliso Niguel High School.  He also had experience as a coach at Aliso Niguel, Newport Harbor High School and Redondo Union High School.

A California native, Magpayo graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 2001 with a degree in business economics.  He was actively involved with the university's intramurals program and volunteered in the Santa Barbara area as a basketball coach and mentor.
