Archery Competes at Connecticut Indoor Championships

NEW YORK – The Columbia archery team took part in the Connecticut Target Archers Association State Championships, January 29 in Manchester, Conn. The Lions, who opened their season at the Eastern Seaboard FITA just a week early, took several of the top spots. Senior Sarah Chai won the State Recurve Higher Education Female section, while fisrt-year Sarah Bernstein won the State Recurve Junior Female section, and sophomore Mary Quien won the State Compound Higher Education Female section. 

Chai, shooting against four of her teammates, won the Recurve division by shooting 546. Chai edged out teammates Sara Lavenhar (495), Aaqilah Chambers (480) and Kate Cwynar (289).  

In the junior recurve division, Bernstein also broke the 500 mark, shooting 515, beating out teammate Grace Kim, who shot 475. 

Rounding out Columbia’s performance was Quien, who won the Compound division, shooting 553. She narrowly beat teammate Sydney Shaefer, who shot 550, and first-year Gladys Velez-Caicedo, who shot 443. 

Up next for the Lions is the New York State Indoor Championships, which will take place in Queens, Saturday, February 18 at 12:30 p.m.
