Menís Golf Finishes Ninth at Big 5 Invitational

HUNTINGDON VALLEY, Pa. - The Columbia men's golf team improved by six strokes as a unit and moved up one spot in the standings to finish tied for ninth at the Big 5 Invitational Sunday.

Harrison Shih and Andrew Kim each played a good round of golf Sunday, shooting 74. Shih's tournament total of 151 (77-74) placed him in a tie for 10th, while Kim's 152 (78-74) was good for a 12th-place tie.

Michael Yiu made a four-stroke jump in his score from Saturday, carding a second-round 77 to finish tied for 42nd (81-77-158). 

Ford Fischer (80-85-165) and Brandon Jowers (81-89-170) wrapped up the Columbia lineup tied for 71st and 90th, respectively. 

Of the 19 teams in action at the Philmont Country Club, Hartford came away with the victory on the team leaderboard. Temple's Brandon Matthews won the individual tournament with a two-round score of 145 (76-69).

Columbia has now concluded competition for the fall. The Lions next hit the links March 24-25, 2013 at the Seahawk Invitational in Wilmington, N.C.
