NEW YORK - The No. 14 Columbia women's squash team (0-3, 0-3 Ivy) dropped a pair of Ivy League matches over the weekend to No. 9 Brown and No. 2 Yale. The Bears defeated the Lions, 6-3, while the Bulldogs remained undefeated this season with a 9-0 victory.
Facing off against Brown in Stamford, Conn. Saturday, Columbia secured wins in three matches, including the top two spots. First-year Catherine Jenkins swept Dori Rahbar in the No. 1 match, 11-8, 11-8, 11-8, to notch her first collegiate win. Fellow first-year Reyna Pacheco dropped the first set of the No. 2 match to Mina Shakarshy, but went on to win the next three to also tally her first collegiate victory.
In the No. 6 match, Columbia sophomore Kate Calihan and Brown's Isabel Pitaro went back-and-forth in a five-set thriller with Calihan capturing the victory in the decisive fifth set, 11-4, 8-11, 11-5, 8-11, 11-8.
Hosting Yale at the SL Green StreetSquash Center Sunday, the Lions put up a strong fight, but the second-ranked Bulldogs posted a 9-0 win.
Columbia is set to compete four times in New Haven, Conn. Jan. 18-20. The Lions will take on No. 15 Franklin & Marshall Friday, No. 7 Stanford and No. 12 George Washington Saturday and finish off the weekend with a Sunday matchup against No. 20 Bowdoin.
