No. 12 Women’s Squash Defeated in Kurtz Cup Semifinals
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The No. 12 Columbia women's squash team fell in the semifinals of the Kurtz Cup (B Division) at the 2013 College Squash Association National Team Championships to No. 9 Dartmouth, 9-0, Saturday afternoon.
Despite the final score, the Lions played tough and led in two of the matches early on and also forced five games in two. Catherine Jenkins led 1-0 and 2-1 in the No. 1 match, but Corey Schafer won the last two games by identical 11-4 scores for the win. Monica Stone took the opening game of the No. 6, but dropped the next three to Victoria Dewey.
In the No. 5 match, Leah Barnet came from behind to force a fifth game with an 11-4 win in the fourth, but her opponent, Katherine Nimmo took the decisive game, 11-6. Diya Kumar tied the No. 9 match at 1-1, winning the second game 12-10, but lost in four games.
Columbia will play the loser of the Middlebury and Bates match Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in the 11/12 playoff.
