Archery Caps Indoor Season At National Championships

HARRISONBURG, Va. - From March 8-10, the Columbia archery team competed at the East Regional section of the 2013 U.S. Target Indoor National Championships at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va. The Lions capped the indoor season with some fantastic regional performances in the recurve and compound divisions.

Tiffany Kim led the Lions in the female junior recurve with a top east regional total of 1,087 points. The first-year archer posted a round one score of 543 and a second round score of 544 to rank seventh nationally.

In the female senior recurve, Grace Kim shot a first round score of 545 and a second round score of 550 to combine for a total of 1,095 points.  Kim's total earned second place in the east region and seventh overall.

Sarah Bernstein also posted a solid showing in the senior recurve with a total score of 1004. Her combined scores of 496 in round one and 507 in round two ranked seventh in the east region and 28th nationally.

Also performing well for the Lions in the female junior compound was Julie Hoffman. Hoffman claimed the third best east regional total of 1126. In round two, she posted the highest point total in the region with a score of 568 en route to an 11th place national finish.

"I'm very happy with the results," said Head Coach Derek Davis. "This was a good way to end our indoor season and start preparing for outdoor season."

Up next for Columbia archery is the beginning of the outdoor season, as the Lions will travel to Phoenix, Ariz., to take part in the Arizona Cup, Thursday, April 4 to Sunday, April 7.
