Trio of Women’s Soccer Players Selected to College Sports Madness All-Ivy League Preseason Team
NEW YORK – Senior midfielder Beverly Leon headlines three Columbia selections to the 2013 College Sports Madness All-Ivy League Preseason Teams. Fellow senior midfielder Coleen Rizzo and junior defender Catherine Troup were named to the second team.
Leon led the Lions offensively in 2012, netting six tallies and assisting on three more for 15 points. For her efforts, the Wrentham, Mass. native picked up her first All-Ivy League honors with a selection to the second team.
In 2012, Rizzo matched Leon with six goals, while also adding two assists for 14 points. As one of the most aggressive players on the team, her style led to three game-winning goals for Columbia.
Troup also collected her first Ivy League honor last season, being named honorable mention by the conference coaches. A force on the backline, Troup helped lead the Lions to six shutouts in 2012.
Columbia is slated to open up its 2013 schedule at Manhattan on Friday, Sep. 6, with the home opener at Columbia Soccer Stadium to follow on Sunday, Sep. 8 against Monmouth.
