PRINCETON, N.J. - The Columbia men's tennis team continued its strong start to the Fall 2013 season, winning the first flight in singles and doubles at the Farnsworth Invitational last weekend.
Dragos Ignat had a strong start to the season with victories in both singles in doubles. In singles action, Ignat won the A flight over Tom Colautti of Princeton by scores of 6-3, 6-2. His success continued with a B flight doubles win with partner Bert Vancura. The duo defeated their own teammates, Shawn Hadavi and Richard Pham, in the final round (8-7(4)).
Winston Ln and first-year Miguel Alda were also winners in A flight doubles, defeating Zach McCourt and Dan Davies of Princeton, 8-7(4) in the Orange flight event.
Making a big comeback in singles, Pham walked away with a D flight victory over Thomas Caputo, 6-1,1-6, 6-1.
The Lions also had strong performances from Hadavi, who reached the C flight finals, and Eric Rubin, who reached the finals of the B flight.
Columbia returns to action Sept. 20-22 at the Ivy Plus Championships held in New Haven, Conn.
