Volleyball Sweeps William & Mary at Cavalier Classic
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Columbia volleyball team opened the Cavalier Classic with a dominating 3-0 sweep over William & Mary on Friday.
The Lions easily handled the Tribe by set scores of 25-19, 25-18, 25-15.
Columbia (2-4) picked up its first road win of the season behind an impressive .327 team hitting percentage, led by sophomore Bailey Springer, who hit at a .348 mark with 10 kills.
William & Mary (4-8) was led by Dessi Koleva's match-high 14 kills and .310 hitting percentage.
The Lions controlled the majority of the first set, but the Tribe stayed close behind, never allowing their deficit to dip below three points, until a pair of kills by Springer and two William & Mary attacking errors surged Columbia ahead for good.
Columbia is back in action tomorrow for a noon matinee versus host Virginia and a 4:30 p.m. showdown with Seton Hall in Memorial Gymnasium.
