Women's Golf Finishes Fourth at Nittany Lion Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Columbia women's golf team finished in fourth place at the conclusion of the Nittany Lion Invitational on Sunday.

The Lions scored a team total of 893 (+29). Senior Michelle Piyapattra once again led the way with an 11th-place finish after carding scores of 76-77-71--224 (+8).

First-year Rachek Shi shot 72 in the final round and Camilla Vik's score of 73 gave the Lions their lowest team round in the last five years and the lowest 54-hole total in program history.

"We finished fourth in the strongest field we have faced this year," said Columbia head coach Kari Williams. "It is great preparation for our tournament next week where we will see six teams ranked in the top 25 in the country."

Sophomore Lilette Mocio enjoyed a career-best second round on Saturday. Mocio drained a 40-foot putt for eagle on the final hole for a second day score of of 69 (-3), trimming nine strokes off her first day score of 78. She carded a 78 in the last round to place in a tie for 15th.

First-year Jackie Chulya also tied for 15th place with scores of 73-75-77-225 (+9).

The field of teams in the tournament included Old Dominion, Columbia, Yale, Georgetown, Longwood, Akron, Eastern Michigan, Rutgers, Ohio University, Bucknell, Western Michigan, Kent State and William & Mary.

The Lions will return to action at the University of Washington on Sahalee National Golf Course from October 8-9.
