ITHACA, N.Y. - On Saturday, Dec. 7, the No. 11 Columbia women's squash team faced its first Ivy League team to start the season at No. 6 Cornell. The Big Red proved to be a tough matchup handing the Lions a 7-2 defeat.
Columbia's Catherine Jenkins picked up a victory at the No. 4 position in a poised five-set game. Jenkins trailed 2-1 after the first three games, but the sophomore came up big to win back-to-back sets over Cornell's Brynn Daniels, 11-5, 8-11, 3-11, 11-4, 11-9. Kate Calihan also gave the Lions a win at the No. 9 position capturing the victory in straight sets, 11-6,11-7, 11-2.
The Lions drop to 1-1 to end the calendar year. Columbia will jump back into Ivy Leauge play on Saturday, Jan. 11 at Yale in a noon match.
