NEW YORK—The Columbia men’s and women’s golf programs held their fourth annual Senior Awards Banquet Thursday evening at the New York Athletic Club.

Director of Golf Rich Mueller and Head Women’s Coach Amy Weeks each presented awards to their senior class members. The coaching duo presented their teams in different ways.

Weeks had her younger student-athletes speak about each of her three seniors: Jackie Chulya, Rachel Shi and Camilla Vik. Ridhima Dilawari and Emily Chu presented Chulya, Nancy Xu introduced Shi, and Amy Ding spoke about Camilla Vik. Each of the players told stories about their teammates.

Mueller recognized his five seniors: Arjuna Anday, Christopher Chu, J. Christian FitzGerald, Tharusyan Pillay and Mert Selamet. Continuing in his tradition of allowing an underclassmen to speak about his seniors, Sunny Yan stepped to the podium and told jokes about each of the players. Each senior spoke, then Mueller had all five, standing in front of the audience, play a game of step forward, step backward as he announced certain facts about each of the five student-athletes.

The banquet concluded with photos. Columbia alumnus Joe Simone, ‘79CC gave the welcome. Each of the eight seniors were presented with a framed plaque. Mueller gave Weeks a bouquet of flowers for her hard work in organizing the banquet.

Since taking over the men’s program in 2005, Mueller has guided Columbia men’s golf to four Ivy League team championships, three individual Ivy League championships, five NCAA post-season appearances and 23 All-Ivy League individual golf performances. Led by Weeks, the Columbia women’s program is coming of its most successful fall season in school history as the Lions captured two tournament titles in October. The program earned its highest-ever national ranking during the fall 2016 campaign at No. 83. Boosted by senior leadership of Chulya, Vik and Shi, along with four of the program’s all-time top golfers, the Lions enter the spring as one of the favorites to win the Ivy League team championship.
