DENTON, Texas—North Texas won five consecutive singles matches en route to a 6-1 victory over the Columbia women’s tennis team Thursday afternoon at Waranch Tennis Center. The dual match was Columbia’s first on a three-match spring break road trip to Texas.

Junior Adi Milstein registered Columbia’s only victory on the afternoon when she claimed a 6-1, 6-7 (6-8), 10-8 win over Haruka Sasaki at No. 6 singles.

The host Mean Green won both doubles matches for its first point, then used Tamuna Kutubidze’s 6-4, 6-1 win over Columbia sophomore Andrea Kevakian at No. 2 singles, Minying Liang’s 6-1, 6-2 win over Columbia first-year Renee Ren at No. 5 and Maria Kononova’s 7-5, 7-5 victory over Columbia junior Alexandra Solovyev at No. 1 singles to secure the match. Kononova entered the match as the nation’s No. 82 ranked singles player.

North Texas improved to 6-10 on the year.

After a day off, Columbia (3-8) is back in action on Saturday when it plays No. 17 Kansas in a neutral site match at UNT’s Waranch Tennis Center. First serve is at 11 a.m.
