HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth scored three unanswered goals to overcome a 2-0 deficit and claim a 3-2 overtime victory over the Columbia field hockey team Saturday. The Lions dropped to 7-7 overall and 3-2 in Ivy League play.
The Big Green’s (6-8, 2-3) Tatum Schultz evened things up at 2-2 in the 55th minute after Katie Spanos feed. In the 77th minute, Taylor Hantman ended things off a scramble play following a corner and two initial shots blocked.
The Lions grabbed the lead in the 11th minute off a corner play. Maeve Doherty’s initial shot was denied by a sprawling Hailey Velerio, but the rebound went right to the stick of Michelle Thompson on the doorstep, who chipped one over the left shoulder of the keeper for her fifth tally of the season.
Buttinger doubled the lead in the 27th minute with a tip-in off Doherty’s blast off the corner, but Dartmouth quickly responded to make it a one-goal game just over a minute later. The Big Green drew a corner of their own and after two touch passes, Katie Spanos was left with an open net for her sixth score of the year.
Lindsay Ladas assisted on both goals for the Lions.
Columbia returns to the Baker Athletics Complex for its final non-conference game of the season when they host Lehigh on Sunday, October 22 at 2 p.m. Admission is free and the game will be broadcast live on the Ivy League Network.
