Providence, R.I. – The Columbia men's swimming & diving team captured their third-consecutive victory on Saturday, Jan. 20 as they defeated Brown 190-110 on the road. The Lions were dominant in another dual-meet performance to move to 6-2 on the season.
The winning tandem of Cole Stevens, Jace Ng, Kevin Frifeldt and Albert Gwo began the the day with a first-place time of 1:29.77 in the 200 medley relay. Brian Tsau followed with a long distance victory in the 1000 freestyle (9:29.24), along with a runner-up finish by Jack Scanlon (9:33.42). Nian-Guo Liu led a 1-2 punch in the 200 freestyle at 1:38.95 with Michal Zyla placing second in 1:39.91.
The Lions were dominant in the 100 breaststroke taking the top 4 spots. Jace Ng hit the wall in a first-place time of 56.51, followed by Jae Park (56.60), Joseph Lozano (58.65) and Zach Thomas (58.92). Ng went on to sweep the breaststroke events a win in the 200 breast behind a time of 2:05.35, finishing ahead of teammate Joseph Lozano (2:05.88).
Shane Brett grabbed the crown in the 200 butterfly with an impressive time of 1:50.67 and Albert Gwo continues his strong performances in the 50 freestyle this season with another winning time of 20.45, along with third-place points from Kevin Frifeldt (20.63).
The Lions next crown came from Michal Zyla in the 200 backstroke in 1:49.19. Joe Skimmons clocked in third place in the event at 1:51.91. Capturing the 500 freestyle was Jack Scanlon in 4:38.95, while Jae Park hit the wall first in the 200 I.M. in 1:51.04.
With a time of 3:00.66 in the 400 freestyle relay, the squad of Kevin Frifeldt, Nian-Guo Liu, Kevin Dang and Albert Gwo concluded the day with a Columbia victory.
Columbia's dominance was also highlighted on the boards as Jonathan Suckow led the way with wins in both the three-meter (398.85) and one-meter dive (340.05). In both events Columbia placed 1-4 with Jayden Pantel (362.10 – 3M, 284.48 – 1M) as runner up, followed by Shinya Kondo (258.23 – 1M, 283.73 – 3M) and Kevin Fulton (249.15 – 1M, 331.88 – 3M).
Up next, Columbia (6-2, 3-2 Ivy) will travel to Navy on Friday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. in their final non-conference meet.
