Waltham, Mass. —  The Lions dominated the Northeast Regional on Sunday, with eight medal performances as the team overqualified for the NCAA Championships yet again.

Iman Blow was the only Lion to bring home a gold medal, and she did it in stunning fashion, losing just two of her 23 bouts, one of them to teammate Quinn Crum. The women's foil podium was all light blue, as Sylvie Binder took home silver and Quinn Crum earned the bronze. Both Binder and Blow did not lose a single bout until the final pool. Ester Schreiber rounded out the foil quartet with a sixth place finish.

In women's sabre, Violet Michel got a silver medal while Lena Johnson earned a bronze. Michel went 9-2 in the final pool, and 19-3 on the day, while Johnson posted a 17-6 record on the day. Michel is likely going to make her first trip to the NCAA Championships.

Katie Angen paced the epee squad with a bronze medal finish, as Audrey Yun placed fourth and Giana Vierheller came in sixth place. Angen was 16-7 on the day as she qualified for the NCAA Championships for the fourth time.

Calvin Liang and Sidarth Kumbla medaled on the men's side as Liang took silver in men's sabre and Kumbla went home with a bronze medal in men's foil.

First-years Dawson Sieradzky and Josef Cohen held their own in men's sabre as their first regionals, taking 5th and 8th place respectively.

Sam Moelis finished just behind Kumbla in the fourth spot in men's foil going 18-5 on the day as the sophomore qualified for NCAAs for the second straight year.

In men's epee, Gabe Canaux finished fifth and Porter Hesslegrave finished in seventh place.

No qualifiers are officially official until the NCAA's announcement on Tuesday when we will find out the 12 fencers that will represent the Lions at the NCAA Championships at Penn State in two weeks.

HOW IT WORKS

The qualification for the NCAA Championship is based on a formula comprising a 60 percent weight on regional performance and 40 percent regular-season meets. Top eight in all events (nine in women's saber) qualify for nationals, two maximum per team. Next two in region are put into at-large pool.  Twenty-four spots in the epee, foil and sabre for both men’s and women’s competitors will be distributed.
