BOCA RATON, Fla.—With the score deadlocked at 3-3, Columbia junior Andrea Kevakian claimed a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 win to give the Lions a 4-3 women’s tennis victory over Florida Atlantic Friday afternoon at the FAU Tennis Center. The victory concluded Columbia’s 2018 Spring Break Trip as the Lions claimed two wins in three matches over six days in the Miami area.
Kevakian won her third straight match and improved her record to 18-4 on the year with the game-clinching win. She wasn’t the only Lions to break a tie on Friday. Junior Sarah Hu and first-year Jennifer Kerr gave Columbia a 1-0 lead when they clinched the doubles point with a 7-6 win at No. 2 doubles over FAU’s Kristen Toms and Ja’Cara Gillis.
Florida Atlantic’s Aliona Bolsova tied the match at 1-1 as she registered a 6-1, 6-0 win over Columbia first-year Christie Wan at No. 1 singles. Senior Adi Milstein made it 2-1 Columbia when she defeated FAU’s Jennifer Leib at No. 6 singles. First-year Jennifer Kerr followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win over FAU’s Natalia Boltinskaya and the Lions led 3-1.
But host FAU would tie the match at 3-3 with back-to-back wins at No. 3 and No. 5 singles. That set up Kevakian’s victory at No. 4 singles.
Columbia (7-5) is back in action when it hosts LIU Brooklyn on Friday at Dick Savitt Tennis Center. First serve is 4 p.m.
