LEONIA, N.J. - On a picturesque morning at Overpeck Park, the No. 6 Columbia lightweight rowing varsity eight began its spring season with a thrilling defeat of No. 2 Princeton Saturday. The Lions will bring the trophy to the 1929 Boathouse for the first time since the trophy was put up for grabs last season.

In the main event, Columbia built an open-water lead in the first 1,000 meters, but the Tigers stormed back and pulled within two seats. However, Columbia never relinquished its advantage and pulled in 1.1 seconds in front of Princeton.

The Lions also posted a victory in the second varsity eight, topping the Tigers 2V8 by a 4.5-second margin. In the third varsity eight, Princeton came out on top and Columbia's fourth varsity finished between the first-place Tigers' 4V8 and their fifth varsity.

Columbia is back in action next Saturday, April 7, when they host Navy for the W.I.T. Cup at Overpeck Park.
