WEST POINT, N.Y. – Three Army West Point pitchers teamed up to throw a three-hitter in the Black Knights 3-1 victory over the Columbia baseball team Tuesday afternoon. The Lions’ staff was also strong, with the quartet of Tim Post, Dan Harrington, Ty Wiest and Mark Patrick Flynn giving up just six hits and striking out eight.
Army started the bottom of the first with two consecutive hits and then ran a double steal to put two in scoring position. Jon Rosoff opened the scoring with an RBI single to center to give his team the early lead. Trey Martin doubled the advantage with a solo homer to lead off the bottom of the fifth.
Cam Opp tossed three hitless frames before giving way to Jacob Carte, who kept the no-hitter intact until Liam McGill notched a single through the left side with two outs in the top of the sixth.
However, the Black Knights restored the two-run advantage in the eighth on an Anthony Giachin single to plate Anferenee Crompton. In the top of the ninth, Carter Van Gytenbeek sent the Lions down in order for his third save of the year.
The Lions returns to Robertson Field at Satow Stadium for one final time when Penn visits this weekend. The series will begin with a single game Friday, April 27, at 3 p.m. Senior day will feature a doubleheader beginning at 11:30 a.m. All three games will be broadcast live on the Ivy League Network.
