A former Columbia basketball player, Katie Day Benvenuto was promoted to Senior Executive Director for Development for Columbia College, Arts & Sciences and Athletics in October 2016. She has spent a combined 13 years at Columbia University in athletics development and as a student-athlete on its women’s basketball team.

 

In her current position, Day Benvenuto oversees development for the Columbia College Fund, the College Parents units as well as Athletics, and also helps oversee development for Arts & Sciences at Columbia University. She started her current position in October 2016. Previously, she oversaw the development activities for the athletics department as its Director of Athletics Development, a position she held from 2014-16.

 

Day Benvenuto began her development career at Columbia in November 2007 when she was hired as its Associate Director, Athletics Annual Giving. Four years later, she was promoted to Associate Director, Athletics Development (2011-13) and then Deputy Director (2013-14).

 

Immediately following graduation, she worked as an Associate Editor for four years at Penguin Books in New York City before returning to Columbia as an Associate Director for Annual Giving.

 

Day Benvenuto graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language/Letters from Columbia College in 2003. She earned a Master of Business Administration degree, with honors from Columbia University’s Business School in 2012. She was the recipient of the Marion R. Philips watch, awarded to the female student-athlete with the highest GPA, as a senior.

 

A four-year starter for Columbia from 1999-2002, Day earned Academic All-Region First Team honors from the College Sports Information Directors Association in 2002-03, was a three-time Academic All-District pick and twice was honored as an Academic All-Ivy League selection (2001-02 and 2002-03). She was a member of the Student-Athlete 4.0 Club three of her four years on the team.  After serving as a team captain during her senior season, she concluded her four-year career with 641 points, 468 rebounds, a .440 field goal percentage (207-470) and 2,031 minutes played while starting 61 of 94 career games. She was honored as the Ivy League’s Rookie of the Week in 1999. Her single game career-highs were 20 points and 16 rebounds.

 

A McLean, Va. native, Day Benvenuto is married to Columbia’s Associate Athletic Director for Fan Development and Membership Operations Dan Benvenuto. The couple has two children, Nicholas (4) and Adrienne (2) and resides in Bergen County, N.J.
