Ray Tellier is in his 21st year at Columbia, his seventh as an athletics administrator after 14 seasons as the Lions’ head football coach. In the summer of 2005, he was named Associate Athletics Director for Intercollegiate Sports Programs, overseeing 10 teams in seven sports in areas such as home event management, travel, scheduling and equipment.

Prior to assuming his administrative duties, Tellier served as Columbia’s head football coach from 1989 through 2002. He ranks second at Columbia in both career football games coached (140) and victories (42). He sent several players on to professional football, saw seven of his assistant coaches go on to become either head coaches or coordinators, and was voted the Division 1-AA National and Regional Coach of the Year in 1996, when he led the Lions to an 8-2 record and second place in the Ivy League. He also served as head coach at the University of Rochester, and as an assistant at Boston University, Brown, Connecticut, Dartmouth and Wabash.

Tellier played quarterback at Connecticut and graduated in 1973 with a B.S. in physical education. He and his wife, Susan, have three children, all of whom graduated from Columbia College.
