HANOVER, N.H. – The second half proved to be the better half once again for Columbia, as senior Will Stamatis and first-year Andrew Tinari netted goals in the latter 45 minutes to give men’s soccer a 2-0 victory on the road at Dartmouth. Senior David Najem recorded assists on both goals to push his team-best point total to 14 on the year.

The Big Green narrowly edged Columbia in shots in the first half, but it was Columbia that had the best scoring chance. Sophomore Antonio Matarazzo had a great look at the goal in the 21st minute, but Dartmouth goalkeeper James Hickok came up with a great save to keep the game scoreless.

Kyle Jackson made his lone save of the half three minutes prior, while Hickok ended the half with three stops.

After the intermission, Dartmouth got an early shot on net, but Jackson turned it away. The Lions broke the scoreless tie in the 65th minute, with Stamatis powering a header into the back of the net off a Najem cross. The tally was Stamatis’ team-best fifth of the year.

The Big Green looked like it was in a position to knot the game at 1-1 in the 77th minute, but Colin Skelly’s header hit the post. Six minutes later, Tinari provided an insurance goal for the Lions, playing give-and-go with Najem for the score. Tinari now has nine points on three goals and three assists in his rookie campaign.

Columbia will next be in action at the Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium on Saturday, November 2, when it hosts Yale in a 4 p.m. contest.
