NEW YORK -- After finishing off his first year at Columbia University in impressive fashion, rising men's golf sophomore Michael Yiu recently took part in the Los Angeles City Men's Golf Championship on June 10-13. Yiu, who helped the Lions to their third straight Ivy League Championship in the spring, tied for sixth at the 72-hole tournament at Rancho Park Golf Course, which included 120 of the best golfers in the Los Angeles area.

Yiu was Columbia's top finisher at the NCAA East Regional in late May (T-21st at even-par 280), and earned second team All-Ivy League accolades after a tie for seventh at the conference championship two weeks prior.

Bringing a great deal of confidence into the event on the West Coast, the Laguna Hills, Calif. native was tied for the lead at 135 entering the third round.

A blazing second round of 65 helped Yiu to a tie of first place with Max Homa of Valencia. Yiu would conclude the event eight shots off the pace at 279. Andrew Perez of Oxnard, Calif. was the individual champion of the event, posting a four-day total of 271.
