NEW YORK – Columbia's Tim Giel continues to pitch well for the Green Bay Bullfrogs of the Northwoods League this summer, earning the team's Pitcher of the Week honors on June 27 after he was named the Northwoods League Pitcher of the Night for a second time this month.

On June 24, Giel pitched seven scoreless in a 3-1 win over the Wisconsin Woodchucks.  Bouncing back from his first loss of the season against La Crosse, Giel gave up only three hits while walking two and striking out four. Giel has now earned three wins in five appearances, lowering his earned run average to 1.52 for the season. His three wins are tied for the league lead while his ERA is among the top ten.

During Columbia's 2011 season, Giel was a second team All-Ivy League selection after he carried a team-low earned run average of 1.71 and gained five saves, the most by a Columbia pitcher in a single season.  Giel struck out 26 batters in 26 1/3 innings and got stronger during Ivy League play.  He struck out 14 batters in 12 2/3 innings against league opponents, appearing in six games, going 1-1 with two saves and a stellar 1.42 ERA.
