LIONS HOST WAGNER IN MIDWEEK MATCHUP

After a home-road split weekend to start the 2012-13 season, the Columbia women's basketball team will return home to host local rival Wagner in a mid- week matchup on Wednesday, November 14 at 7 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT

Columbia is coming off of two losses to open the season, at home against Long Island, 53-42, and on the road at Vermont, 46-40. The Lions have struggled to put the ball in the net, shooting 34.7 percent (17-of-49) to go with 20 turnovers vs. the Blackbirds, followed by a 32.6 percent (15-of-46) shooting effort and 25 turnovers against the Catamounts. Defensively, the Lions are keeping pace with their opponents in rebounding (36.0 rebounds/game), steals (8.5 steals/ game) and blocks (4.0 blocks/game). Tyler Simpson leads Columbia with 13.0 points per game, while Brittany Simmons is the top rebounder, pulling down 6.5 boards per game.

ALL-TIME SERIES vs. WAGNER

The Seahawks lead the all-time series against the Lions, 14-7, but that tide changed with the arrival of head coach Paul Nixon in 2005. Since then, Columbia is 4-3 vs. Wagner. Last season, the Lions fell short the the Seahawks, 66-54, on November 16, 2011.

SENIOR LEADERSHIP

Once again, Columbia brings back two seniors who will be crucial to Columbia's success in the 2012-13 season. Senior co-captains Brittany Simmons and Tyler Simpson will lead the Lions into the year. Simpson earned Honorable Mention All-Ivy recognition following a breakout junior season last year and led Columbia in scoring, averaging 12.6 points per game, including a career- high 26 points against Brown. Simmons bounced back from an injury in 2010- 11 to see action in 18 games, during which she posted a season-high nine points against Vermont in the season opener and again vs. Morgan State.

BRADFORD BLOCK PARTY

Courtney Bradford already has six blocks this season, including a career- high four blocks last weekend at Vermont, and currently leads the Ivy League in blocks.
