NEW YORK - Columbia's defensive coordinator and secondary coach Kevin Lempa has resigned to take the position of defensive secondary coach at Boston College, Patricia and Shepard Alexander Head Coach of Football Pete Mangurian announced today.

"Change is part of what we do, every game, and every season," Coach Mangurian said. "We must anticipate and make adjustments to the unexpected. It wasn't an easy decision for Kevin. We talked a long time about it. In the final analysis, Kevin had an opportunity to get closer to his family and return to a place that he knows well and feels comfortable at. We all will miss him, both as a person and as a coach."

Lempa coached at Boston College two times previously, from 1981-1990 and from 2003-2006. Lempa came to Columbia after serving as Central Connecticut State as the defensive coordinator in 2011.

"My top priority will be to make this change as comfortable for our players as possible," Coach Mangurian said. "We made great strides defensively last year and I have no intention of starting over. Our continuity will be of utmost importance."

"Although I'll miss him, I wish Kevin luck. He will always be a part of what we accomplish."
