RALIEGH, N.C. – The Columbia men’s golf team brought the 2013 regular season to a close Sunday at the Wolfpack Spring Open, finishing tied for eighth with George Mason.
Duke (286-289—757) edged the host N.C. State by two strokes at the Lonnie Pool Golf Course to capture the team title, while Albin Choi of the Wolfpack won the individual medalist honors.
Sophomore Brandon Jowers continued his solid spring season, scoring an even par Sunday to finish the tournament at one-over (73-72—145) to come in tied for eighth.
Senior Michael Yiu also played well during the second round, improving eight strokes from Saturday’s round to card a 73. Yiu completed the tournament 10-over par and tied for 45th.
First-year Harrison Shih was the third highest finisher for Columbia, shooting an 80 Sunday to finish in a tie for 52nd. Andrew Kim and Ford Fischer comprised the remainder of the Columbia lineup, as both finished tied for 62nd after shooting 81 and 78, respectively. Competing as an individual, senior Stephen LaRouere completed the Wolfpack Spring Open in tied for 76th.
Columbia now turns its attention to the Ivy League Championships to be played at the Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md. from Arpil 26 – 28. The Lions finished third at last season’s Ancient Eight Championships, with Yiu capturing third place as an individual to receive first team All-Ivy League honors.
