PRINCETON, N.J. – For the second straight season, the Ivy League Men’s Tennis Rookie of the Year hails from Columbia. First-year Dragos Ignat received the honor Thursday, as announced by the conference office.

Dragos and sophomore Winston Lin, last year’s Ivy League Rookie of the Year, were also selected to the All-Ivy League first team. Lin’s selection was unanimous, as voted on by the conference coaches.

Sophomores Ashok Narayana and Max Schnur were recognized for their stellar doubles play, as the duo picked up first team All-Ivy League honors, while Narayana also made the All-Ivy League second team for his singles play.

Ignat and Lin each finished the season with a team-best 24 victories. In his first year as a Lion, Ignat posted a polished 14-6 dual record, including a 6-1 mark against the Ancient Eight. The Bacau, Romania native, played primarily as the Lions’ No. 2, playing to a 10-4 record. Ignat joins Lin (2012), Haig Schneiderman (2009) and Jonathan Wong (2007) as Ivy League Rookie of the Year selections from Columbia.

Lin found himself atop the Columbia Lions for all but one match during his sophomore campaign. He registered a 4-3 conference mark, and a 12-7 showing in the No. 1 spot.

Narayana and Schnur combined to create one of the toughest doubles teams to defeat in the Ivy League. The pair notched an impressive 24-12 record on the doubles court, including a 14-6 mark as the Lions’ No. 1 team in dual action. Against nationally ranked team, they went 5-4.

This marks the second straight year that Lin, Narayana and Schnur were all first team selections.

On the singles court, Narayana saw action in spots No. 1-3 this season, racking up 19 wins. Seeing the most time at No. 3 singles, the Houston, Texas native, posted an 8-6 record and a 6-1 Ivy League record.
