Women's Tennis Draws Success at Columbia Invitational

NEW YORK - The defending Ivy League Champions, the Columbia women's tennis team opened the 2013 fall season this weekend, hosting the Columbia Invitational Friday, Sept. 13 through Sunday, Sept. 15.

The Lions welcomed Amherst, St. John's and Penn to the Dick Savitt Tennis Center for three days of competition. The Columbia Invitational featured four draws of singles competition, as well as two doubles draws over the course of the weekend.

Among the Lions' top performances, the No. 29 ranked doubles team of Bianca Sanon and Kanika Vaidya beat the No. 36 ranked duo of Augustina Eskenazi and Sonya Latycheva of Penn, 8-4.

In singles play, Vaidya beat nationally-ranked Esknazi, while first-years Tina Jiang and Vivian Cheng both went undefeated in singles play for the weekend.

The Lions are back in action from September 20-22 for the Cissie Leary invitational in Philadelphia, Pa.
