Lam and Snodgrass Named NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Columbia softball players Emily Snodgrass and Alison Lam were selected as 2012-13 NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes, the Association announced on Monday.
The award is bestowed upon any player submitted by a member coach who achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2012-13 academic year. The honor marks the second component of the Association’s academic award program.
Snodgrass, a creative writing major, tied a career-high by hitting .308 and was the club’s top run-producer. She led Columbia with six home runs, 29 RBI and added 11 doubles. The designated player was named Ivy League Player of the Week on March 19 after batting .412 with five extra-base hits to help the Lions post a 5-1 record at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.
A biology major, Lam completed her four-year career with the Lions in 2013. As a junior, she had her best season, posting a .278 batting average with 17 runs scored. Lam was a two-time recipient of the program's Carol Dodge Award, given to the player who provides inspiration and leadership for her team, perseveres through adversity, demonstrates compassion for her fellow athletes and lives in the true spirit and love of athletics.
