Matthew Scally, former Associate Athletics Director and Director of Compliance at Long Island University Brooklyn, was named Associate Athletics Director for Intercollegiate Sports Programs in July, 2014.
At Columbia, Scally oversees nine Lions varsity sports programs including Baseball Softball, Field Hockey, Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer, Men’s Heavyweight Rowing, Lightweight Rowing and Women’s Rowing and Lacrosse.
As Associate Athletic Director and Director of Compliance at LIU Brooklyn, Scally was responsible for working closely with both the director of athletics and the senior woman administrator to ensure compliance in both the Northeast Conference and the NCAA.
Scally arrived at LIU in 1992 as the Assistant Director of Admissions. The Brooklyn native then moved to the College of Pharmacy as its Director of Advisement before joining the athletic department in January, 1999 as academic coordinator. Through the years, he has served on a variety of LIU, NEC and NCAA committees, including the NCAA Progress Towards Degree Waiver committee. He has also served as an NCAA Peer Review Team member, which evaluates colleges and universities in the NCAA Certification process.
Scally earned a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic administration from St. John’s University in 1991. He completed his master’s degree in guidance and counseling from LIU Brooklyn in 1997.
