NEW YORK – Columbia wrestling has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2014-15 season, featuring four tournaments and six homes matches.
The season gets started with a trip to the Michigan State Open on November 8. At last year’s MSU Open, Columbia notched 10 placewinners highlighted by Zack Hernandez’s victory at 184 pounds in the freshmen/sophomore division.
Columbia will host its first dual meet against Lehigh in New York City on November 21 at the New York Athletic Club. The Lions will return to tournament action on Sunday, November 23, heading to Ithaca for the New York State Championships.
December sees the Lions compete at two high-profile national tournaments, beginning December 5-6 at the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas. Columbia last competed at Cliff Keen in December 2009. The calendar year concludes with a trip to Evanston, Illinois, to compete at the Ken Kraft Midlands Championships on December 29-30.
The dual season gets going in full force on January 16 with a trip to Buffalo, followed by a visit to Binghamton on January 18. Columbia remains on the road with a match at Bucknell on January 23. Columbia hosted all three of those schools in 2013, defeating each of them.
Columbia host its first match in the Blue Gym on January 25, welcoming Hofstra and American. The Ivy League season ramps up with Cornell (Feb. 7), Princeton (Feb. 13) and Penn (Feb. 14) all traveling to the Big Apple. The Lions end the regular season with visits to Harvard and Brown on February 20 and 21, respectively.
Championship action begins March 7-8 at the EIWA Championships hosted by Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The season culminates on March 19-21 with the NCAA Championships in St. Louis.
