Erica Aresco was named Columbia University’s new Associate Athletics Director/Chief Financial Officer, Campbell Family Director of Intercollegiate Athletics & Physical Education in November of 2016.
Aresco’s duties at Columbia will focus on strategic planning, budget development, implementation and monitoring of personnel decisions, implementing and overseeing departmental budgetary policies and procedures, preparing budgets, reviewing revenues, disbursements, maintaining a variety of specialized and recurring accounting reports, coordinating financial and budget special projects, coordinating the extraction of data for financial reports studies, surveys and projects and advising the athletic department on short and long-term budget strategies.
“We are extremely excited to add Erica to the Columbia Athletics team,” Pilling said. “Her background in corporate finance, business operations and athletics is a perfect combination for what we were searching for in this position.”
Aresco arrives at Columbia after having worked as both a Senior Financial Analyst and Financial Manager at The Washington Post, where she was responsible for revenue and forecasting for all print and digital circulation. After a promotion to Financial Manager, she also oversaw budget management, forecasted analysis and developed monthly accounting reports. She also worked as a Senior Financial Analyst with the National Geographic Society, where her responsibilities centered around financial management, generating annual budgets, overseeing billing and providing quarterly forecasts for the publication’s budget.
Aresco also has experience in the college athletics sector after having served as an Assistant Business Manager in The George Washington University Athletics Department, the Athletics Business and Finance Director at Wagner College and as the Assistant Business Manager/Athletics Ticket Manager at Wagner. In all three positions, she worked with budget management, processing, purchasing and financial analysis.

A native of Barneveld, N.Y., Aresco is a graduate of the State University of New York at New Paltz, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism. She earned a Master’s of Business Administration with a Concentration in Management degree from Wagner College in Staten Island.
A swimmer at New Paltz, Aresco is a five-time NCAA Division III honorable mention All-American and two-time All-SUNYAC performer. She claimed a conference title in the 100 breaststroke, set school records in both the 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly and also competed on the 200 and 400 medley relays. Following her senior year, she was honored with the prestigious Kenneth F. Burda Award, presented to a New Paltz student-athlete who demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, sportsmanship, citizenship, ethical conduct and leadership throughout a collegiate career.
The former Erica Ellis, she married Michael Aresco in June of 2015.
