BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – In the second dual of the weekend, the Columbia wrestling team fell on the road at Binghamton, 32-8.
After Johnson Mai dropped a 3-2 decision to Steven Bulzomi at 125, Kelly gave the Lions the lead with an impressive 20-5 victory against Joe Nelson. The 20 points were the most this season for the rookie, who enjoyed his first career tech fall.
At 149, Dan Reed was outlasted by Parker Kropman, 3-2, in another close loss for Columbia. Tyrel White was unable to get by Vincent DePrez, 5-3, at 165 pounds, in the midst of Binghamton taking seven consecutive matches.
Although he suffered a tight loss the day before, Ryan was able to bounce back at heavyweight. Leading 3-2 in the final period, the junior picked up a takedown in the closing seconds to preserve a 5-2 victory, his 14th of the season.
Columbia will hit the road again next weekend, taking on Rider, NC State, and Bloomsburg at the Pitt Duals on Saturday, Jan. 14. In two weeks, the Lions will take part in their first home dual of the season, when Hofstra visits for a 7 p.m. dual on Saturday, Jan. 21.
