Columbia Downs Princeton In Regular Season Finale

NEW YORK-With three individual wins by  David Jakl and a pair of wins from Dominik Koll, the Columbia men's swimming and diving team capped its regular season with a 158-139 home victory over Princeton on Saturday, Feb. 16.

In their final meet at Uris Pool, Columbia honored seniors: Jason Collazo, Patrick Dougherty, Richard Fineman and John Wright.

Princeton opened the meet taking the first two events in the three-meter dive and the 200 medley relay. Columbia responded early with Koll's first win of the meet in the 1650 freestyle in 9:22.25, and continued to build from there. Koll went on to grab a victory in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:31.16.

The Lions dominated the 200 freestyle posting a 1-2-3 sweep in the event, led by Philipp Gaissert in 1:40.54. Alex Mango claimed second place at 1:42.39 and Christian Vivadelli followed in third place at 1:42.78.

The 100 breaststroke event went to Stanley Wong with a winning time of 56.56 and Jakl began his big day taking the 200 butterfly in 1:47.51. Jakl's second win of the day came in the 200 backstroke at 1:48.25 and he picked up a third win in the 100 butterfly at 49.49.

In a time of 2:04.59, Eric Traub posted a victory in the 200 breaststroke and the Lions secured the win taking the 200 freestyle relay. The quartet of Daniel Gosek, Gaissert, Alex Ngan and John Wright clocked in with a first-place time of 1:21.95.

The Lions finish the regular season at 8-2 overall and 5-2 in the Ivy League, winning seven straight meets. Up next, Columbia will look to carry the momentum when they travel to Cambridge, Mass. for the ECAC Championships on Friday, March 1- Sunday, March 3.
