Baseball to Take on Coastal Carolina in Round One of the NCAA Tournament

NEW YORK - With the WNBC cameras rolling, the Columbia Baseball team jumped with excitement as its name appeared on the Baseball Selection Show which aired on Monday, May 26 on ESPN. The Columbia Lions are headed to Conway, S.C., for the first round of regional play set to begin later this week.

In addition to the top-seeded host, Coastal Carolina, Columbia’s bracket includes East Carolina and Alabama. The series will take place at Charles Watson Stadium/Vrooman Field on Coastal Carolina's campus, twelve miles from Myrtle Beach, May 30-June 1.

Columbia (22-28) received an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after defeating Dartmouth in a best-of-three series in Hanover, N.H. This marks Columbia’s first appearance in NCAA regional play since 1976.

Coastal Carolina (47-12) won the Big South Conference’s automatic bid on May 24 in a 9-2 win over Liberty in the second championship game of the conference’s tournament.
