THE HISTORY NOTE – HARVARD
The Columbia-Harvard series began in Columbia’s inaugural 1900-01 season, when the Crimson won, 11-9. During the Joe Jones era, the Lions hold an 8-4 edge over the Crimson. Columbia has won five of the last six meetings between the two teams and three straight over Harvard at Levien Gym.
THE HISTORY NOTE – DARTMOUTH
Dartmouth was the last Ivy League team that Columbia faced in its early years as a program. The series began in the 1905-06 season, when Dartmouth defeated Columbia, 16-10. The Lions came back to finish that season with a 12-4 record. Columbia has won four of the last six over the Big Green, although Dartmouth captured the last meeting in New Hampshire on February 28, 2009.
FIRST FULL IVY LEAGUE WEEKEND IS HERE
Columbia begins six weeks of back-to-back Friday and Saturday night games beginning with a matchup vs. Harvard at home on Friday. Last season, Columbia started 0-2 after two losses to eventual champ Cornell but won six of its next seven games to catapult itself back into the Ivy League race. The Lions are hoping to do the same thing this season, and will look to take advantage of having the next four games at home in Levien Gym.
COACHES VS. CANCER SUITS AND SNEAKERS AWARENESS WEEKEND
This weekend is the 2010 Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Awareness Weekend in which college basketball coaches nationwide will wear sneakers with their sideline attire to raise cancer awareness and remind fans that by making healthy lifestyle choices, such as regular exercise and a healthy diet, they can reduce their own cancer risk. Coaches vs. Cancer is a collaboration of the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
