MONTEREY, Calif. -- Four of the five Columbia University women's golfers improved on their first-round scores as the women's golf team moved from seventh to fourth place as a team at the Monterey Invitational on Friday. The Lions fired a 312 as a team and sit one stroke in front of North Dakota State at 644.
First-year Allison Oakes and senior Nancy Shon showed the most improvement from round-to-round, as Oakes fired a 77 after a first-round 84 and currently sits in a tie for 12th place individually. Shon did her one better, improving by eight strokes on her first-round score and finished with an identical 77 after a first-round 85.
Shon moved into a tie for 17th place and is currently tied with classmate Stevy Loy, who shaved four strokes off her first-round score and closed with a 79. After posting the team's low round in round one, junior Jennifer Adyorough remained in the top 20 individually at 163.
Sophomore Lynda Kwon fought mightily throughout her round and improved by four strokes on her first-round score with a 79. She currently stands in a tie for 25th place.
The Lions will conclude play at the Monterey Invitational on Saturday, March 20.
