MONTEREY, Calif. -- The Columbia University women's golf team concluded its first spring tournament of 2010 on a high note, closing with a final-round 309 to finish in fourth place at the Monterey Invitational, hosted by Drake University. Senior Stevy Loy fired a final-round 74 to finish in 9th place while classmate Nancy Shon also closed in the top 10 as she tied for 10th place at 238.
Loy, like the Columbia team as a whole, improved each and every day during the tournament. After opening with an 83 in the first round, Loy shaved four strokes off her total to close with a 79 in round two. Saving the best for last, the senior captain bettered her previous day's score by five strokes on Saturday and had the best round of any Lion throughout the tournament.
Similar to her classmate, Shon also made strides throughout the tournament, and was two strokes off of Loy's round with a 76 on the final day. First-year Allison Oakes was the third Columbia player to break 80 with a 79, while junior Jennifer Adyorough closed in 20th place at 243. Sophomore Lynda Kwon finished her tournament one stroke behind Adyorough in 21st place.
Classmate Robin Lee, playing as an individual, broke 80 herself and tied for 17th place at 241. First-year Ashley Zambito finished in 44th place at 263.
Powered by four top-10 finishes, Lamar University overtook Drake on the final day of competition to take home the team title by two strokes. Amy Anderson of North Dakota State won the individual title by six strokes.
