WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Columbia archery recurve team won gold at the East Regional Intercollegiate Archery Championships (ERIAC) on Saturday, April 24. The team was made up of Sarah Chai, Alexandra Garyn and Sara Goshorn.
The trio was dominant in the semi-finals, crushing their opponents from ACCC 8-0 to advance to the finals. In a repeat gold medal match from last season, the Lions defeated a talented team from James Madison University 8-6 to claim top honors in the region once again. Both Goshorn and Garyn were part of the recurve team that defeated JMU 8-6 in 2009 to take gold.
Later in the day, the Lions competed in the qualifying round for the individual title. Goshorn continued her impressive shooting by placing first in the recurve division with 558. Just behind her was Chai with 545, while Garyn ranked third with a 530.
Anna Harrington finished fourth overall with a 524. Placing sixth and seventh with Stephanie Botica (497) and Lauren Marion (485). Maya Inamura ranked ninth overall after shooting 421, while Aaqilah Chambers (361) and Kate Cwynar (197) finished 12th and 16th, respectively.
In the compound division, Sydney Shaefer finished in a tie for second with JMU's Lindsey Fackler with a score of 634. Fackler edged her out, however, as she held an edge in the number of 10's scored.
Columbia will compete in the individual head-to-head competition on Sunday, April 25.
