Father Thomas J. Valenti is in his eighth year heading Columbia Athletics' community outreach efforts and has served as the Lions' team chaplain for 14 years. He offers spiritual guidence/counseling to team members, conducts an optional prayer service for the team on each game day, and convenes the Columbia Student-Athlete Community Outreach Committee.
With the full support and encouragement of Head Coach Norries Wilson, the team offers tutoring and sports clinics to children of the South Bronx. With "Father V's" guidance, the team also sponsors an annual Thanksgiving Food Drive and Toys for Tots Program. The success of these two programs and others benefit many in need of assistance in the New York area.
His ministry on a college campus began at Ithaca College. During his four years at Ithaca, he served as team chaplain for the Division III football program.
A native of Rochester, New York, Father Valenti was ordained a priest in 1976. While in Rochester, he served as the Assistant to the Bishop for Vocations, among other assignments.
