NEW YORK -- Columbia University junior Clark Granum has been a busy man of late. One of the top golfers in the Ivy League, Granum helped the men's golf team to its third straight Ivy League Championship on April 25. His final-round 67 catapulted him into a tie for first for the championship en route to his third straight All-Ivy League first team selection.

After a quick break for final exams, Granum continued his pursuit of excellence on May 11 as he attempted to qualify for the U.S. Open through local qualifying stages. Although a berth in the Open was not in the cards, Granum resumed his whirlwind journey on May 17 at the California State Amateur Qualifying stage in San Diego.

Playing at the San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, Calif., Granum put together a one-under par round of 71 to finish in a tie for fourth and earn the right to compete in the 99th Annual California State Amateur Championship on June 21-26 in San Diego.

The Torrey Pines, Calif. native carded five birdies on his round and was one of six players in the field of 78 to finish under par. Granum made the turn at two-under 34 and after a tough stretch of holes from 10-16, got back into red numbers with a birdie on the 17th.

One hundred fifty-six (156) players, divided between northern and southern California, will participate in the California State Amateur. Up to six rounds of stroke and match play at Rancho Santa Fe GC and La Jolla CC will be played over five days to determine the champion.
