NEW YORK – A week before Columbia begins practice to prepare for the 2010-11 season, the team took some time out to spearhead a free basketball clinic at the nearby Riverside Church.

The Columbia coaching staff and Max Craig, John Daniels, Matt Johnson, Issa Mase and Dyami Starks helped run the clinic, which included different passing, rebounding and shooting drills for local children, ages nine to eleven.

At the end of the session, head coach Kyle Smith handed out some awards for the day's activities and engaged the campers in a round of "Stump the Coach."  Smith encouraged the campers to name any basketball player and he would name their college, high school and where they were from.  As was the case on ESPN's "Stump the Schwab" game show, stumping the coach proved to be difficult.

The Lions will begin the 2010-11 season in less than a month, when Columbia takes on La Salle in Philadelphia on Friday, November 12 at 7 p.m.
