NEW YORK - Coming off a weekend sweep of Maryland and Akron, the Columbia women's tennis team will look to defend its fresh new national ranking of No. 46 against Stony Brook Saturday at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center. First serve between the Lions and Seawolves is set for 10 a.m.

Columbia's biggest challenge last weekend seemed to be the logistics of playing two matches in two states in a 24-hour span. The Lions began with a 6-1 triumph in College Park, Md. over Maryland Saturday and then returned back to New York to take down Akron Sunday. The win over the Terps was the first in program history.

The on-court success led to some much deserved recognition from the ITA, as the Lions received a top 50 ranking for the first time in Columbia women's tennis history, garnering the No. 46 slot.

Stony Brook has played a limited schedule this season, competing just three times. After a season-opening loss at Penn, the Seawolves have topped Lehigh and Connecticut.

The top of the Seawolves lineup has been a bright spot so far this season. Nini Lagvilava and Polina Movchan are each 3-0 in the No. 1 and 2 spots, respectively.
